With guidePORT in the tracks of the Scythians

13.08.2007 Wedemark/Berlin

Transforming history into a multimedia experience — this is what Sennheiser’s audio system “guidePORT” has achieved in Berlin. It accompanies visitors through an exhibition entitled “Under the Sign of the Golden Griffin. The Royal Tombs of the Scythians”, where guidePORT users can circulate freely in the museum and retrieve exciting information on the culture of the Eurasian horsemen and their magnificent tombs. Children can look forward to their own audio play which spirits them away into the midst of the mysterious world of the Scythians.

Ice mummies, magnificent horse jewels and tombs filled with gold — the legacy of the Scythians is one of the greatest archaeological sensations of the last few years. In the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, visitors have been astonished at the culture of the fascinating horsemen shown for the first time in an extensive exhibition. It spans from the early Scythian period in the South Siberian steppes up to the gates of Central Europe and proves the existence of long-distance relationships between Asia and Europe long before the use of the silk route.

Excellent Museum Guide
guidePORT from Sennheiser is the ideal companion for following in the footsteps of these nomads. The multi-award winning audio system consists of a small receiver and light stereo headphones enabling visitors to move around freely within the exhibition following any points of particular interest. And should the visitors want more information about a particular exhibit, it is as easy as pressing a number and their smart electronic companion will impart its huge knowledge — for instance on the sensational tomb complexes of the kings and princes. The system was set up by guidePORT partner GPT audio GmbH and the guide and audio play were produced by Birge Tetzner from audio Konzept.

There are 200 receivers with a choice of German, English or Russian available to the museum visitors. Six mobile transmitters enable groups to have their own tailor-made tours, allowing the guide to “switch” his/her listeners into the general guided tour at any time.

Stories from history
There’s also plenty for the little ones since guidePORT can surprise children with an exciting audio play whose individual chapters can be heard at selected exhibits. On their acoustic journey into the world of the Eurasian horsemen, they will accompany Fred and his father on their archaeological excavations in Siberia and they will even get to know two Scythians in person! To find out what happens you’d best listen to it for yourself . . .

After Berlin the Scythian Exhibition will open in Munich and Hamburg.
